Axel Straschnoy

Born in Buenos Aires, 1978. Lives and works in Helsinki, Finland.

Biography

For Axel Straschnoy, any object can be considered a work of art or a subject of scientific study based on personal interpretation, with a particular focus on expeditions of any kind: both literal and metaphorical, scientific and artistic. It is precisely from these acts, from these “interpretative” rituals, from the opportunity to dance around objects, that his research emerges, aimed at investigating social practices in science and art through the use of various media. His works, which are always part of larger research projects, range from films for planetariums to performances, from cinematic installations to editions, from traveling exhibitions to museum collections, and VR films. Furthermore, his work often has a collaborative nature. He is interested in alternative spaces and new ways of framing the interaction between the artwork and the audience. He has established the production company Kolme Perunaa as a tool to realize his work.

A graduate of art history from the University of Buenos Aires, he has attended several seminars over the years organized by international universities and institutions such as the Palais de Tokyo, the Rojas Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, and the Kuvataideakatemia in Helsinki.
