Ivan Grubanov

Born in Belgrade, 1976. Lives and works in Belgrade, Serbia.


Ivan Grubanov’s work ranges across different art forms, including painting, performance, installation, and drawing, and he is known to address complex issues related to history, politics, and identity. His artistic practice has been influenced by personal experiences and political challenges faced in the context of the Balkan region. Many of Grubanov’s works explore the concept of collective memory and historical narratives, often challenging official rhetoric and dominant versions of history. His works can be seen as a critical reflection on historical events, conflicts, and social issues, asking important questions about individual and collective responsibility. Ivan Grubanov has shown his works in numerous exhibitions around the world, earning international recognition for his contribution to contemporary art.

His artistic practice continues to evolve, addressing important issues and offering new perspectives on the complexities of the contemporary world. He explores the limits of art as a tool to drive social change and to document and interpret history, in painting, drawing, and installation work.
